A design for a ring inspired by 1950's car designs.
This is one of a series of technology inspired designs for jewellery that I created a few years ago. The over-the-top design aesthetic of 1950's American car design is still iconic, so I decided to make something based on this Cadillac (?) grill.
I modelled the concept in Rhino and then rendered with Flamingo. Here is the result:
I actually did try a 3D print of this design, but the limitations of the technology meant that the result was not quite like the design, as investment casting is limited to a thickness of around 1mm for stand alone parts, so the grill elements wouldn't work. I may try a fabricated approach in the future.
